Shower Unblocking

Showers block more often than any other fixture in the house, usually down to a handful of familiar culprits.

1. Hair and soap scum: by far the most common cause, hair traps soap and skin cells to form a dense blockage right at the drain. Because showers are used daily, this builds up faster than in a bath or sink, which is why showers tend to need clearing more often than other fixtures. We clear this directly from the drain and trap, usually resolving it on the first visit.
2. Shallow trap blockages: shower traps are often shallower than bath or sink traps, so they block up faster and more frequently. The shallow depth also means a blockage here can affect drainage almost immediately, rather than the gradual slowdown you’d see elsewhere. We use fine rodding equipment suited to the trap size to avoid any damage.
3. Wet rooms and level-access showers: the wider drain channel in a wet room can gather hair and debris across a bigger surface area before it’s noticed. Because the channel is longer, a blockage can sit further from the visible outlet than in a standard shower tray. We clear the full length of the channel, not just the immediate outlet, to stop it recurring quickly.
4. Limescale and grease residue: in hard water areas, scale builds up alongside soap and hair, narrowing the drain over time. This combination is often behind a shower that blocks repeatedly despite regular clearing. Jetting deals with this more effectively than rodding, since it strips the scale from the pipe wall rather than just clearing a path through it.
