What High-Pressure Jetting Clears
Jetting uses a controlled, high-pressure water jet to scour the full length of a drain, not just push a blockage further along.
- Grease and fat build-up: common in kitchen waste runs, jetting strips built-up grease from the pipe wall rather than just clearing a temporary gap. Rodding alone can clear the immediate blockage but often leaves a layer of grease behind, which is why the same drain can block again within weeks. Jetting removes that layer completely, giving a genuinely clean pipe rather than a temporary fix.
- Scale and mineral deposits: hard water areas see scale narrow a pipe gradually over years, jetting restores it close to its original diameter. This build-up is gradual and easy to miss until flow has slowed noticeably, by which point a significant amount of scale has usually formed. We adjust the jetting pressure to the pipe material and age, so older pipework is cleared safely without damage.
- Root ingress: where roots have grown into a joint, jetting cuts and clears the growth without excavation in most cases. The cutting nozzles we use are effective on smaller root growth, though where roots have caused significant damage to the pipe itself, we’ll recommend a CCTV survey to check whether repair or relining is also needed.
- Stubborn or recurring blockages: where rodding alone hasn’t resolved a problem, or a drain blocks repeatedly, jetting deals with the underlying build-up rather than the symptom. If a drain has needed clearing more than once for what seems like the same issue, jetting is usually the more effective long-term fix, since it addresses the build-up along the whole pipe rather than just the immediate blockage point.
Thorough, No-Dig Drain Jetting
At Cooper & Sons Drainage, we use jetting as our go-to method wherever a stronger clean than simple rodding is needed. It clears grease, scale and root ingress from the full length of a drain run, without digging up a garden or driveway in the vast majority of cases. Every call-out is free, so you know what you’re paying before any work starts.
Where useful, we can follow a jetting job with a CCTV survey to confirm the line is clear and check the condition of the pipe.

Frequently Asked Questions
We always confirm the price before starting work, so there are no surprises on the invoice.
Yes, jetting pressure is controlled and adjusted to suit the pipe material and condition. Where a pipe is already fragile, we'll advise honestly if a gentler method or relining is a better option.
Rodding pushes through a blockage mechanically, while jetting uses high-pressure water to scour the full pipe wall, removing built-up grease and scale rather than just clearing a gap.
Yes, an out-of-hours surcharge applies.
Not always, but it's a useful follow-up to confirm the line is fully clear and to check the condition of the pipe, especially after a stubborn or recurring blockage.
